Belarus scientists get Scopus Award

Ten Belarusian scientists have received Scopus Award Belarus 2013. The award ceremony was held at Belarusian State University on 2 April.

“It is an assessment rating of the activity of the Belarusian scientists. This award demonstrates the level of our university science and testifies to a high level of the Belarusian education,” said Education Minister Sergei Maskevich who took part in the ceremony. “It is important for us that the world knows about the achievements of our scientists, talks about them, uses their projects. Such events recognize the talent, knowledge and experience of the scientists of Belarus,” he added.

The Scopus Award ceremony was held in Belarus for the first time. Scientists were selected due to their publishing activity and reference at the international level (according to the Scopus database) as well as recognition of their scientific achievements at the national level. The prize was presented to the best young and also to renowned Belarusian education scientists. Two people were awarded in each nomination, namely in mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and medicine.

The multi-disciplinary analytical database Scopus comprises over 19,500 sci-tech and medical magazines of 5,000 international publishing houses, including Russian and Belarusian magazines. The first Scopus Award was presented in China in 2004. Since then the prize has been conferred on the most popular authors in Latin America, Asia, Europe and Russia.
