Belarus is a valuable partner for the IAEA, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano said during a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said the, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus is a valuable partner for the IAEA. The Agency and Belarus maintain important technical cooperation, particularly with regard to the nuclear power plant construction,” the IAEA head said.
The last time Mr Yukiya Amano visited Belarus was in 2012 when the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant had not yet begun. “I remember well the meeting with you and also the visits to the rehabilitation centers for the people who were affected by the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Since that time I really wanted to visit your country again to see the progress made in the past four years,” he said.
Mr Yukiya Amano also noted that the IAEA and Belarus keep in close contact with regard to the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
