Belarus, Lithuania urged to find compromise on NPP construction project

04.03.2014
Belarus and Lithuania must find mutually beneficial, mutually acceptable solutions to the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Ostrovets, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said in an interview with the BNS news agency, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

“We need to fight off the bias against each other and stop reproaching each other,” said Vladimir Makei. “We can also raise a lot of questions and, believe me, we have not yet used all the arguments regarding the Visagina nuclear power plant, other plans, and a number of other issues that could be an obstacle in our bilateral relations,” Vladimir Makei noted.

"We do not want to bring the situation to the point of absurdity. We want to find mutually acceptable or even compromise solutions through dialogue," the minister stressed.

Vladimir Makei invites experts of the two countries to hold an informal meeting where each of the parties will be able to make complaints against each other and find a solution. In his words, "now some experts say that they have sent all the answers, all the materials, they are being considered by the other party; other experts say that the materials are not enough, incomplete, or the translation is low-quality," Vladimir Makei said.
