Opening of nuclear information center is important for Belarusian society

23.04.2015

The opening of the nuclear information center in Minsk is important for the Belarusian society, as it will become an effective channel for informing the public about the peaceful use of nuclear energy in the country, Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian public association Ecological Initiative Yuri Solovyov said in an interview with BelTA.

"This is an advanced and well-equipped information center under the auspices of the Rosatom Corporation. There are not many of them outside the Russian Federation. Opening this facility in Belarus is a positive thing, and public organizations welcome this fact. This shows that Rosatom is social responsible company as it is building a safe nuclear facility in Belarus and is creating the infrastructure necessary for informing people about nuclear energy,” said the environmentalist.

Yuri Solovyov emphasized that the information center is equipped with the latest technology which allows communicating the necessary information not only to adults but also to children.

"In addition, the center will regularly hold seminars and trainings for public associations of Belarus interested in receiving up-to-date information on the construction of the nuclear power plant and nuclear power in general. By the way, the Association Ecological Initiative is planning to actively use the center to carry out its projects, and to continue its current project on monitoring the long-term social impact of the Belarusian nuclear power plant on the environment,” he added.

The first nuclear information center was opened on the initiative of the Rosatom State Corporation in Tomsk (Russia) in November 2008. Since then 17 such centers have been set up in the Russian Federation, including in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, and Smolensk. In 2012, information centers were opened in Hanoi (Vietnam), in Buyukeceli, Mersin Province (Turkey), in 2013 in Dhaka (Bangladesh).
