Physical safeguards of Russian nuclear power plants always high

All the Russian nuclear power plants have switched their physical safeguards to a higher mode as part of the nationwide measures to increase anti-terrorism security.

Andrei Timonov, Director of the Information and Public Relations Department of OAO Rosenergoatom Concern, told media that even in usual times physical protection measures of Russian nuclear power plants are infinitely high. The nuclear power plants can be called some of the most protected installations in the country, BelTA has learned.

Due to extraordinary events relating to terrorist attacks in Egypt and France these security measures have been beefed up even higher. Additional means and forces to protect the nuclear power plants have been utilized but the measures have not affected the operation of the nuclear power plants.

Access is also routinely restricted to the construction sites where new nuclear power-generating units are being built although no fissionable materials are located there. The heightened security measures will also apply to the construction sites.

I would like to once again underline that the routine operation of nuclear power plants has not been affected and visits of delegations proceed as usual. The persons intent on visiting nuclear power plants are always thoroughly checked.

All the personnel of the nuclear power plants have been briefed to stay vigilant about all the situations concerning the operation of nuclear power plants. They will promptly report any situations to the relevant divisions.
