Russian nuclear energy projects among best in the world

08.08.2014
It is quite logical that Russia and Kazakhstan are developing their nuclear energy cooperation as they have a long history of such interaction, Yuri Prokudin, analyst at MFX Broker, told media, BelTA informs.

"Today, industry accounts for just 37.5% of Kazakhstan’s GDP, which means that that country is not employing all of its industrial capacities. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Kazakhstan has relied mostly on oil, gas and metal (uranium) production. In the energy sector, it has made no big progress. On the contrary, during the first five years after the collapse of the USSR, electric power production in Kazakhstan slumped by 43%. The country has so far had only thermal and water power plants, which are obviously unable to solve its energy problems. So, it is logical that the Kazakhs referred to the experience of Russia, a country that is actively developing its energy sector", he said.

"Russian nuclear energy projects are among the best and safest in the world. One more advantage here is that Russia and Kazakhstan are neighbors. I think nuclear energy agreements will not only boost the countries’ economic ties but will also help the Kazakhs to make best of their natural resources. After all, they have own uranium, that is, they have fuel for their future nuclear reactors", expert noted.
