Belarus' Academy of Sciences to accomplish ambitious tasks in AI, electric vehicles, biotechnologies

13.10.2023

MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) – Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov talked to reporters and sketched out what Belarusian scientists intend to accomplish in the future, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Gusakov said: “The 95th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is a memorable date. The academy is a productive organization across the board and a thriving one. And we owe all of it to the comprehensive support from the head of state. He sets tasks and inquires about results, gets to the bottom of problems. Scientists feel responsibility. We constantly achieve new results in all areas ranging from outer space to agriculture.”

The official remarked that accomplishments of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus are also recognized abroad. The academy is the basic organization for the International Association of the Academies of Sciences. “We have received congratulations on the anniversary from a number of countries, even the United States of America,” Vladimir Gusakov said.

“We intend to accomplish even more ambitious tasks in the future. It is necessary to secure the development of all branches of the economy by using artificial intelligence and digital technologies. We already talk about unmanned manufacturing – production of parts, machines, and mechanisms without human interference. Artificial intelligence stems from software and we have our own software. It is another task set by the head of state before us. We need to stop relying on import as much as possible and have to become self-dependent. Our mechanical engineering industry uses our own software. We use our own software to develop smart systems for various industries as well. In the future we will have to keep up with the world's leading brands. I want our scientists to keep up with the trends, with the edge of world science and even stay ahead of it in some areas,” the chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus stressed.

In his words, information technologies and biotechnologies develop most rapidly in the world now and Belarus' Academy of Sciences works actively in these spheres, too. Research into new materials, electric vehicles, pharmaceutics, artificial selection, and many other areas is relevant, too.

A solemn assembly of representatives of the scientific community took place at premises of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 13 October on the occasion of the academy's 95th anniversary. About 30 best scientists were nominated to receive awards from the academy and various ministries and government agencies.

The exhibition Artificial Intelligence in Belarus has been organized ahead of the 95th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Expositions focusing on humanities are also available today: archeology, an exhibition of modern books, an exhibition of literature dedicated to the history of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
