Belarus, Austria to implement projects in climate change adaptation

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Austria will develop proposals on joint projects in climate change mitigation and adaptation, promotion of green economy, including renewable energy. Such an arrangement was reached at the meeting of Belarusian Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrei Khudyk with Managing Director of the Austrian Energy Agency Peter Traupmann, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

Other arrangements provide for consultations on climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. This implies drafting and implementing national programs on climate, selecting companies and organizations who will invest in renewable energy projects and projects to promote electric transport and other green technology taking into consideration the needs of Belarus and Austria.

Andrei Khudyk expressed appreciation for Austria's contribution to the project “Removing Barriers to Wind Power Development in Belarus”. He noted that Belarus is interested in sharing best practices in legislating and regulating waste management and in transferring zero waste and zero emission technology.

The parties agreed to draft a roadmap to implement the memorandum of understanding signed on 12 November.
