Belarus, Lithuania to support cross-border innovation projects

Belarus and Lithuania signed an agreement on cross-border cooperation to promote innovation, BelTA learnt from Director of the National Center for Technology Transfer Alexander Uspensky.

The agreement provides for cooperation in the border regions of Belarus and Lithuania through the dissemination of innovation. This process will involve the Lithuanian Innovation Center, Yanka Kupala Grodno State University, Polotsk State University, National Center for Technology Transfer, Panevezys Science and Technology Park, Center of Business Cooperation of Southern Lithuania and Kaunas University of Technology.

The agreement was the result of the project "Network of innovation cooperation for economic development" (LT.InnoConnect.BY) funded by the European Union under the cross-border cooperation program “Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus.”

The project partners will apply a system-based approach to promote the innovation development of the economies of Lithuania and Belarus. In particular, they intend to distribute the technology offers and requests from the Belarusian and Lithuanian organizations and companies: innovation centers, university centers of transfer of technology/innovation, science and technology parks, research institutes, innovation small and medium-sized enterprises. The project partners will regularly exchange information, organize workshops, business matchmaking events and other activities in Lithuania and Belarus.

The agreement will be effective from 1 June 2013 until 1 June 2016.
