Belarus has launched the project to create a communication satellite. The information was released by Sergei Zolotoi, Director of the enterprise Geoinformation Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, on 9 April, BelTA has learned.
China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) has won the tender to create the communication satellite. The contract will come into force in the near future.
In the near future space efforts in Belarus will be channeled into developing the Belarusian space system for the remote sensing of the Earth, creating a national satellite communication and broadcasting system based on a geostationary satellite, and working out a common navigation and time support system.
Belarus launched its own satellite on 22 July 2012. By doing so, Belarus became a space power and later created the Belarusian space system for the remote sensing of the Earth. The system comprises the satellite and the ground-based control center.
