02.07.2013

Belarus’ resolution “Cooperation for transition to the ‘green economy’ in the context of sustainable development” has been unanimously approved at a session of the General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment of the OSCE PA, BelTA learnt from the press service of the House of Representatives.

“This resolution aims to foster economic growth without putting pressure on the environment, promote renewable energy sources, and embrace eco-friendly technologies and manufacturing practices. It will make part of the Istanbul Declaration that will be passed on 3 July at the final sitting of the annual session of the OSCE PA,” the press service noted.

Belarus is actively engaged in transition to sustainable development at the global and regional level by means of promoting a welfare economy and economical use of natural resources and reduction of hazardous emission.

The House of Representatives reminded that in 2012 the annual session of the OSCE PA passed a resolution on expanding the use of alternative and renewable energy sources that was also drafted by Belarus’ delegation. “The resolution on the ‘green economy’ passed in Istanbul this year will expand the field of application of the previous resolution,” the press service explained.

The Belarusian parliamentary delegation at the OSCE PA session in Istanbul is led by Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Viktor Guminsky. The Belarusian delegation comprises Chairman of the Permanent Commission for International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Vladimir Senko and member of the Permanent Commission for International Affairs of the House of Representatives of Belarus Valentina Leonenko.
