Belarus-Russia Union State focuses on science as key driver behind development

MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) - The Belarus-Russia Union State emphasizes science as a key driver behind development, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov said at the Union State Award in Science and Technology ceremony, BelTA has learned.

“It is especially encouraging that the Union State makes a focus on science as a key driver behind development. This is a prime example of how new ideas and knowledge can ensure progressive improvement of all areas of human activity, society and the state. Science has long gone beyond laboratories and serves the interests of national economies, working in integration with industries and manufacturing,” Vladimir Gusakov said.

Science is a symbiosis of fundamental traditions and scientific schools, he said. “The mission of science is to expand the horizons of knowledge, to reveal previously unexplored areas, to lead mankind to progress,” the chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus said.

The Union State Award in Science and Technology was instituted by the resolution of the Union State Supreme State Council on 19 June 2018. On 1 April 2022, the Belarusian president presented the Union State Award in Science and Technology for 2021.

The award is given to Belarusian and Russian scientists for outstanding results in joint scientific research, discoveries and achievements that have significantly enriched world science and made a significant contribution to the development of natural, technical and humanitarian sciences, as well as for the joint development of samples of new equipment and advanced technologies that ensure the innovative development of the economy, social welfare and strengthening the defense capability of the Union State.
