Belarus, Russia working on joint weather prediction program

Hydrometeorological services of Belarus and Russia have started drafting a program of joint efforts to prevent hydrometeorological hazards, head of the National Hydrometeorological Center of Belarus Anatoly Polishchuk told reporters in Moscow on 2 December, BelTA has learned.

The program “Prevention of hydrometeorological hazards in the Union State” is set to run in 2016-2020. Anatoly Polishchuk noted that the major objective of the program is to prevent hazardous or an unfavorable hydrometeorological conditions using various observation tools.

Anatoly Polishchuk also spoke about the work of the Union State Committee on Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring that was set up in 1996. Over this time the hydrometeorological services of the two countries have implemented three Union State programs, arranged a number of conferences and seminars. The committee established a task force to coordinate cooperation between regional hydrometeorological centers of Belarus and Russia.
