Belarus, South Korea to step up cooperation in information support

17.07.2015
The Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Korea will step up cooperation in the sphere of information support. The relevant agreement was reached during the meeting of Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus Alexander Shumilin and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Republic of Korea Natalia Zhilevich on 17 July, the Committee’s press service told BelTA.

Alexander Shumilin noted that in January-May 2015 Belarus exported $965,300 worth of merchandise and services to South Korea (97.9% as against the same period of last year). The new exports included milk whey, polyamides, commercial timber, central heating boilers, bread and flour-based confectionery goods, distilled liquors and medications.

Alexander Shumilin also noted that in 2013-2015 five R&D projects were accomplished in the area of engineering sciences, medical, pharmaceutical sciences, physics and mathematics. Organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus accomplished three projects while organizations of the Belarusian Education Ministry carried out two projects. “All the projects were successfully concluded. As a result of one project a contract was signed with the German company BASF. Results of the other four projects may lead to the production of new medications, the application of new technologies to cast metal alloys, make composite materials and materials for spin electronics devices,” said the Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus.

For the sake of further practical implementation of the R&D projects accomplished by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus plans have been made to assist with the advancement of cooperation in the sphere of information support and step up international contacts with organizations in the Republic of Korea (contracts worth $200,000 have been signed). Interaction will continue with Dongguk University for the sake of organizing and carrying out education programs.
