Belarus to test LTE Advanced network this year

24.04.2013

The testing of an LTE Advanced network will begin in Belarus in 2013. The information was released by Belarusian Information Technologies and Communications Minister Nikolai Pantelei, who took part in the second Belarusian-Azerbaijani business forum on information and communication technologies on 24 April, BelTA has learned.

The testing of the LTE Advanced network will be carried out by SOOO Belarusian Cloud Technologies (beCloud) and SOOO Mobile TeleSystems (MTS). Organizational matters required to test the 4G network are being handled. It is necessary to assess the electromagnetic compatibility of suggested solutions first.

“The creation of an LTE Advanced network in Belarus is a relevant idea but it requires thinking about because the project involves a lot,” noted the Information Technologies and Communications Minister. “It is necessary to calculate everything thoroughly for the project to justify the hopes attached to it”.

LTE Advanced is a technology for building wireless fourth-generation data networks. The standard was approved by the International Telecommunication Union in 2012. LTE Advanced can theoretically enable data transfer speeds as large as 1Gbps.
