Belarusian army tests air defense missile system Tor-M2

26.02.2014
A live firing exercise was carried out by personnel of the third air defense missile battery Tor-M2 of the 120th Air Defense Missile Brigade of the Western Tactical Command of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense on 26 February, BelTA has learned.

It was the first time a Tor-M2 system had been tested in Belarus. Previous tests of the hardware and skills of the personnel took place at Russia’s firing range Ashuluk.

Representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA that the exercise was primarily aimed at testing the weapon system itself as well as the special carrier vehicles. Both components were delivered to the Brigade only in December 2013. Apart from that, the exercise tested the readiness of the troops to carry out training missions and autonomous highly-maneuverable actions. Fast and small training targets imitating modern and future air targets were used for the exercise.

The exercise was the final phase of the field deployment of the 120th Air Defense Missile Brigade. During the deployment the personnel also practiced collaboration, casualty control, and passed live firing readiness tests.
