Belarusian IT projects lauded at World Summit on Information Society Forum 2016

Two Belarusian IT projects became champions during the contest held as part of the UN World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2016, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

According to the source, the two projects are the Places To Go project of the Public Administration Academy under the Belarus President and the IT Education project of the educational center of the Belarusian Hi-Tech Park. The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the fact once again confirms Belarus’ status as an internationally recognized training center for IT specialists. At present Belarus is ranked 36th in the information society development index.

A Belarusian delegation led by Belarus’ resident representative in the UN office and other international organizations in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich is taking part in the UN World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2016 on 2-6 May. Participants of the forum are supposed to discuss ways to use the potential of information and communication technologies for accelerating global social and economic development and reaching the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The World Summit on the Information Society Forum is the world’s largest annual meeting of the ICT community for development purposes. It is a unique global platform and an inalienable part of the ongoing process of the World Summit on the Information Society. The Belarus president helped launch the process in 2003. The forum is organized by the International Telecommunication Union in association with UN institutions and international organizations.
