Belarusian-Russian transgenic programs for mass lactoferrin production

15.04.2013
Results of the programs BelRosTransgen and BelRosTransgen 2 will be used in the future for the mass production of human lactoferrin out of transgenic goat milk. The statement was made by Nikolai Kazarovets, Deputy Chairman of the Social Policy, Science, Culture, and Liberal Arts Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, Chairman of the Education, Culture, Science, and Social Development Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Nikolai Kazarovets underlined that BelRosTransgen programs are a pride of the Union State. They have opened up a new scientific branch at the global level. “I believe that mass production will surely be started,” stressed the MP.

The BelRosTransgen 2 program, which runs in 2009-2013, is now in progress. Before its completion the scientists have started working on preparing the next program, which among other things provides for commercial production of medications using human lactoferrin.

Nikolai Kazarovets remarked that Belarusian and Russian scientists successfully cooperate in microbiology, bioengineering, mechanical engineering, power engineering, geochemistry, and nanotechnologies. There are plans to unite efforts in the area of ecology and hydrogen power engineering. The scientists perform a kind of inventorying for the sake of improving the effectiveness of joint research. “Ruling out parallel researches are the key thing. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is more advanced in some fields while the Russian Academy of Sciences is more advanced in others. It is advisable to carry out some programs together while some programs should be carried out independently,” said the parliamentarian. The approach will also allow using the Union State budget more rationally, raising the competitive ability of scientific products, summarized the Belarusian senator.
