Belarusian scientist honored with China West Lake Friendship Award

The West Lake Friendship Award of China’s Zhejiang Province has been bestowed on a Belarusian scientist for the first time, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian State University.
The award went to laboratory chief of the scientific and research institute of physical and chemical issues of the Belarusian State University Dmitry Grinshpan in recognition of his considerable contribution to the implementation of the joint research project to develop a technology for the production of compostable film as well as the development of sci-tech cooperation with establishments of Zhejiang Province.
Dmitry Grinshpan has participated in the implementation of two joint projects with Zhejiang University in the production of biodegradable food packaging material (film) and the investigation of biodegradation products of the natural polymer chitine.
Their successful performance allowed for a launch of the next two new scientific projects in the research of edible wrapping. The matter concerns edible films that are strong enough to act as packaging until they come into contact with water and dissolve. The development of new waste-free technologies is one of the most promising areas in addressing the global environmental problem.
The Belarusian scientist made part of 35 best foreign experts out of 39,000 experts representing 18 countries in the province.
The West Lake Friendship Award is presented to foreign scientists that make a considerable contribution to the development of education, science and culture of Zhejiang Province.
