MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) – Belarusian scientists are busy designing apartment buildings that will rely on using more electricity for heating, cooking, and hot water supply, BelTA learned from Anton Brin, Director of the Power Engineering Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, on 12 March.

According to the source, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus takes an active part in projects relating to the digital transformation of the energy industry and to increasing energy consumption. The Power Engineering Institute and the academy as a whole came up with the idea to build electrified apartment houses in Belarus. It is one of the ways to use the electricity the Belarusian nuclear power plant will generate. The development of a pilot design for an apartment house that will have only water and electricity for heating, hot water supply, and cooking will be finished this year.

Renewable energy solutions can be integrated into such a house. Anton Brin mentioned solar panels, thermal pumps, and wastewater heat as possible options. According to the scientist, a unique smart meter to record water and electricity consumption has been developed as part of the project.

There were plans to build an apartment building with greater reliance on electricity in Minsk. “There are some problems for now but engineering documentation will be fully ready this year. Then it will be possible to build it anywhere,” the official noted.
