The Belarusian State University (BSU) is in the group of universities occupying positions from 491 to 500 in the QS World University Rankings 2014, the BSU’s press service told BelTA.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) came in first. It was followed by the University of Cambridge (UK). Russia’s best universities include the Lomonosov Moscow State University (114), the Saint-Petersburg State University (233), and the Bauman Moscow State Technical University (322).
The University of Warsaw came in 335th. The Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is in the group of universities occupying positions from 421 to 430. The Vilnius University is in the 551-600 range while the University of Latvia is ranked 701+.
Apart from the Belarusian State University this year’s ranking of Belarusian universities by the QS agency includes only the Belarusian National Technical University (701+).
The British agency QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) has been ranking universities of the entire world for ten years already. An annual survey usually includes the top 700-800 universities or 3% of the total number of existing universities.
The QS ranking relies on information about universities and polls of independent experts. The QS agency evaluates results of polls of experts (academic reputation), results of polls of employers, citation index of research papers over the last five years, the correlation of the number of professors and students, the number of foreign students and professors.
Representatives of the Belarusian State University noted that the university is very well represented in international rankings as a top league university. According to the latest data (August 2014) of the Spanish rating agency Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, the BSU’s world ranking is 673rd.
