BSU students win four medals at IMC 2014

The team of the Belarusian State University (BSU) has won four medals at the 21st International Mathematics Competition for University Students IMC 2014. The competition took place in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, BelTA learnt from the press service of the university.

The Belarusian team won two gold and two bronze medals. Fourth-year student Vladislav Satanevsky and fifth-year student Alexander Kozlov clinched gold. Both of them study at the Applied Mathematics and Computer Science Department of the BSU. Bronze went to the fourth-year student of the same department Alexander Nekrashevich and student of the Gomel State University Vyacheslav Murashko.

Belarus was represented by the above-mentioned students. The team was led by Associate Professor of the Functional Analysis Sub-Department of the Mathematics and Mechanics Department of the BSU Oleg Yablonsky who has been coaching students for various international competitions for a long time.

This year the International Mathematics Competition brought together more than 320 students from 73 universities worldwide. The competition consisted of two sessions, five hours each. Problems were from the fields of Algebra, Analysis (Real and Complex), Geometry and Combinatorics. The working language was English.
