BSUIR Open Programming Championship winners announced

Winners of the 4th BSUIR Open Programming Championship (the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics) have been named, BelTA learnt from the press service of the university.
First place was taken by the team from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology “Banana Motel”. Second were the Ababahalamaha team from the same university. The Belarusian State University team Abacaba finished in third. A special prize, the BSUIR Champion medal, was awarded to the BSUIR team “Bsuir_power.”
The final was held in line with the rules of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). The teams had five hours to cope with 11 tasks in the English language.
“This is a big honor for the university to be the organizer of such a large-scale championship. Taking part in it were 227 teams. That is why we can definitely call this competition the biggest ever programming contest in Belarus,” said First Vice Rector of the university Anatoly Osipov.
The BSUIR press service noted that this year more nations have taken part in the competition. In the first qualifying rounds teams from Belarus, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine took part. “Thanks to the high interest on the part of other countries we can definitely say that this contest is popular with other countries, which is another reason for us to continue to develop this project,” the university said.
Representatives of famous IT companies consider the Olympic movement an important area of academic environment. It encourages profound thinking and develops creativity and skills needed to get the expected result in competitive environment. “It is great that Belarusian universities understand this well and pay increasing attention to this area every year. The organization of the BSUIR Open Programming Championship testifies to the fact,” noted Alexei Sikorsky, representative of the partner of the competition, head of the Development Center of the company Yandex in Minsk.
