Expert: Belarus needs infrastructure to implement nano technologies in production

24.09.2014
Belarus needs infrastructure that will help involve nano technologies in production, Chairman of the Board of the National Nanoindustry Association, representative of the National Academy of Sciences Sergei ZHdanok told media on 24 September, BelTA has learned.

“There is no need for Belarus to inject money in the development of a science-intensive nanotechnological product. The country already has it. Belarus only needs infrastructure for transferring knowledge and technology into real production. One of the tasks we are currently addressing together with the Economy Ministry and the State Science and Technology Committee is to attract government funds for the development of such infrastructure,” Sergei Zhdanok said.

“Belarusian public and state-run companies engaged in the development of nanotechnologies are widely present in the international arena,” the official stated. “Dozens of Belarusian companies find their clients among such giants as Apple, General Electric, Mitsubishi. There is no advanced country where Belarusian companies do not supply technologies and nanomaterials,” he added.

According to Sergei Zhdanok, the international market entry for Belarusian scientists is mainly attributed to a huge demand for nano technologies and new ideas among countries. “Belarusian companies have something to offer and, hence, these offerings are aimed at the areas which show demand,” the Chairman of the Board said.

“Attempts to create demand in Belarus are set back as there is no link adapting nano technologies and nano materials to the real production,” Sergei Zhdanok is confident. In his words, the role of such a link in the Soviet Union was played by branch-wise research institutes that received big funds. These research institutes put new developments into the mass production. However, the USSR collapse left no research institutes in Belarus, which led to a gap between the fundamental science and production.
