Fair roaming principles for communications service providers in EEU
16.02.2015
Fair roaming principles will be developed for communications service providers of the Eurasian Economic Union, Alexander Kurilchik, Deputy Director of the Antimonopoly Regulation Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, said during the online conference hosted by the BelTA website on 16 February.
The project, which is based on the international experience, establishes economically viable tariffs and their transparency, equal opportunities for all and ensures non-discriminatory access to the networks of communications service providers and the development of alternative mobile services in roaming.
"Thus, by means of voluntary action on the part of mobile operators we will see gradual reduction of roaming charges and their leveling throughout the Eurasian Economic Union, Alexander Kurilchik said. With the reduction of roaming charges communications service providers will be able to earn on increased traffic. Thus we will achieve a balance between the interests of subscribers and operators, he added
Antimonopoly authorities will undertake investigations and impose fines on the communications service providers of the EEU who violate the rules of competition.
In line with the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty, its member states are set to develop a unified approach to prices for traffic transit services by 1 January 2020.
