Huawei’s smart transport system for Minsk

The Chinese company Huawei, one of the world’s top three manufacturers and suppliers of telecommunication equipment for wired, mobile, and optical communication networks, presented a project for creating a smart transport system in Minsk before the Belarus government on 4 March, BelTA has learned.

It is one of the projects that were discussed during the visit of Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich to China in January 2014. Back then the sides talked a lot about the architecture of Minsk’s smart transport system. The Belarusian and Chinese sides were very close to working out an algorithm to take care of the matter. Slightly more than one month later, on 4 March representatives of the company OOO Bel Huawei Technologies presented the finished project.

The Belarus Prime Minister underlined that the project’s scale and innovative value are unparalleled in Belarus and possibly in the post-Soviet space. In turn, Director General of Bel Huawei Technologies Zhang Dongliang said he believes the project will bring about new opportunities for Chinese business in Belarus.

It was noted during the presentation that among other things the project's implementation will allow raising the performance of the mass transit system and the safety of vehicular traffic in addition to reducing emissions into the atmosphere.

Huawei Company was founded in 1988. At present it is one of the world’s top three manufacturers and suppliers of telecommunication equipment for wired, mobile, and optical communication networks. The company also offers state of the art solutions for wireless communication networks. It develops and sells subscriber terminals — UMTS and CDMA standard phones, computer modules for transferring data and enabling wireless functionality.

Huawei started working in Belarus in 2003 by opening a representative office. In 2004 the first contract for the delivery of CDMA equipment for the mobile company BelCel was signed. In 2005 Huawei started supplying equipment for the mobile carrier MTS to build the carrier’s transport network all over Belarus. In 2007 the company OOO Bel Huawei Technologies was registered with 100% foreign capital. At present the company employs over 150 people. In 2007 the company started cooperating with RUP Beltelecom (telecommunication equipment deliveries). In 2009 Beltelecom and the China Development Bank inked an agreement on opening a credit line as large as $60 million.
