MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov identified the most important areas Belarusian scientists focus on, BelTA has learned.
Vladimir Gusakov said: “Several days ago when the head of state was visiting the car factory SZAO BelGee the Academy of Sciences presented its latest R&D product: an electric car with maximum localization of the main components. We’ve created a center of competences and these competences have been implemented in the country virtually from scratch. The Belarus president gave instructions to start batch production of electric cars by 1 January 2025. We have started working to fulfill this instruction.”
In his words, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has already worked out a lineup of various types of electric vehicles using proprietary components. The lineup includes electric cars, unibody vehicles, electric trucks, and utility vehicles powered by electricity.
Space industry is another interesting area. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the China National Space Administration have signed a joint declaration on cooperation for setting up an international lunar research station. “We’ve joined the lunar program. We are glad that China has offered this cooperation specifically to our country. A number of institutes now work with Chinese partners in this field,” he remarked.
In the field of healthcare and pharmacology the academy’s scientists have leveraged cutting-edge biotechnologies to create prototypes of two Belarusian flu vaccines. New technological processes for high-precision DNA synthesis have been worked out and implemented into practice. In particular, experimental samples of gene therapy medications for treating ischemia in lower limbs have been produced. Together with Belarusian oncologists chimeric antigen receptors have been constructed out of RNA molecules. These receptors teach immune cells of the patient how to fight cancerous tumors.
A council for strategic projects has been set up under the president of Belarus with a view to improving the planning, development, and realization of strategic projects, assimilation of R&D products into manufacturing. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is in charge of enabling the operation of the council. The council is headed by Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov. “We have compiled a registry of promising projects. At present it includes 81 project proposals. In particular, we’ve considered the matter of creating a mobile telecommunication network in compliance with the IMT-2020 (5G) standard in the country,” the official added.
