OAO MAZ, the managing company of the holding company BelavtoMAZ, manufactures vehicles compliant with the fourth ecological class and upwards as of January 2014, representatives of the company told BelTA.
The Belarusian automaker had to switch to fourth ecological class vehicles since the permit for manufacturing the third class ones expired on 31 December 2013. As from January 2014 customers in Belarus can get trucks and passenger vehicles that comply with the fourth ecological class requirements.
Meanwhile, till the end of 2014 customers will be able to buy third class vehicles, which were made in 2013 when conformity certificates were in effect and which are stored in the company’s warehouses.
Major differences exist between the third class vehicles and the fourth class ones. The new vehicles are powered by Euro 4 engines, which boast high reliability and fuel saving. The new row engines have been designed and assembled using modern technologies. The new vehicles also have a new cab and components of the MAZ 6430 family. The MAZ product range powered by Cummins and Mercedes engines has been expanded considerably.
The fourth ecological class vehicles made by MAZ are not an absolute novelty. Their product range relies on the models MAZ has been shipping to Russia since 2011. In addition to passing the company’s tests the vehicles have received praise from customers in real operation conditions. Taking into account the higher consumer qualities and the more contemporary components the new vehicles cost much more than the third class ones.
MAZ representatives also told BelTA about new fourth ecological class trucks. Customers are now offered a new triple-axle dump truck MAZ 6501B9-8420-000 with the 6x4 wheel formula and an increased dump body volume. It is powered by a 412hp Euro-4 compliant engine made by the Yaroslav engine factory on a Renault license (the operational life is 1 million km). The truck has a heated end-dump body as large as 20m3. Unlike other dump trucks that try to increase the volume by raising the dump body sides the new MAZ model is less than 3m high and can be used with virtually any loaders.
Minsk Automobile Plant was founded in 1944. In 2009 it was reincorporated into the public joint-stock company OAO MAZ. In 2012 OAO MAZ became the management company of the holding company BelavtoMAZ. The holding company comprises ten enterprises. The holding company makes truck tractors, high-sided trucks, medium-capacity automobiles, dump trucks, log trucks, short log trucks, cross-country vehicles, chassis fit for special equipment along with buses and trolleybuses. MAZ offers over 500 models and modifications of trucks and about 20 models of passenger vehicles.
