NASB’s program to reform Belarusian science nearly ready

25.11.2013

The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has nearly completed the reformation of the country’s scientific industry. The statement was made by Valery Fedosyuk, Director of the Solid State and Semiconductor Physics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, during the video briefing hosted by the website of the National Press Center on 25 November, BelTA has learned.

Not only the Academy but the entire Belarusian science industry will be reformed, said the official. In his words, the draft program is now being discussed by all the NASB branches in order to submit the document for final discussion in late November and pass it at a general assembly of the Academy.

According to the official, the program contains a suite of measures to reform the Belarusian science. The fundamental science, the industrial science, and the university science should contribute to the achievement of the practical goals that the state faces today. Those include the restoration and development of the industrial science, which is meant to assimilate results of research efforts into manufacturing processes. A kind of a lining between the fundamental science and the university science in the form of the industrial science should positively influence the economy, believes Valery Fedosyuk. “Enterprises that have preserved their design bureaus since the Soviet times stay afloat,” he said.

The Director of the Solid State and Semiconductor Physics Institute is convinced that at present the Belarusian science should focus on creating and selling ideas primarily to the Belarusian production sector. “In the near future our science should make the transition to trade in ideas. Instead of buying ready-made products for assimilation Belarusian companies could buy results of research and development efforts,” said the official.
