MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) - The forum Russia and Belarus: Common History, Common Destiny will take place at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) in Minsk on 3-4 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Academy of Sciences.
The forum will focus on the preservation of the historical memory of Belarus and Russia and is aimed at countering the falsification of the joint history of the two countries, revision of the results of World War II, including the rehabilitation of Nazi criminals and their accomplices, by strengthening humanitarian ties and developing cooperation. Attending the event will be representatives of the Standing Committee of the Belarus-Russia Union State, authorities and state administration bodies of Belarus and Russia, institutions of higher education, academia and expert community, museums, archives, public associations, and mass media of the two countries.
The forum will kick off with a plenary session on 3 October and will be continued as part of three breakout sessions to discuss the problems of the key areas of the Russian-Belarusian cooperation in the preservation of historical memory and counteraction to falsification of history, formation of spiritual and moral values in the process of upbringing the new generation, topical issues of historical education, historical and legal assessments and approaches in the study and coverage of the Nazi genocide on the territory of Belarus and Russia.
On 4 October, the forum will feature the round table “Russia-Belarus Union State: History and Modern Age” the presentation of the book “Crimes of fascism against the peoples of the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” of the Library of the Union State series, books and collections of documents published by Russian and Belarusian historians and archivists. The participants of the event will also visit the Khatyn Memorial Complex.
The event is organized by the Center for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Historical Memory Foundation and the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The forum will be held with the support of the Union State Standing Committee.
