09.12.2014
Novopolotsk and the Serbian town of Nis have been bolstering ties in healthcare, BelTA learned from the Novopolotsk city administration.

An official delegation from Serbia arrived in Novopolotsk on the evening of 8 December with the aim to establish contacts and exchange experiences with healthcare institutions of Belarus. The delegation includes Director General of the Clinical Center of Nis Professor Zoran Radovanovic, the Director of the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Clinical Center of Nis Dr. Veroljub Pejcic, Director General of Ribarska Banja Special Hospital Dr. Dusan Sokorac. In a meeting with chairperson of the Novopolotsk city administration Natalia Kochanova they shared their first impressions about the city and agreed on a return visit of the Novopolotsk delegation to Serbia in 2015.

The guests also attended a working conference to share the experience in herniae surgery with representatives of the health department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee, doctors from local healthcare institutions and professors of the Vitebsk State Medical University. Dr. Veroljub Pejcic made a report in the central city hospital, and conducted a surgery to remove an anterior abdominal wall hernia in the hospital. The Serbian doctor will conduct a series of surgeries on 10 December. The delegation also visited the Naftan health and recreation facility.

“First contacts with Serbia were established last year when a Novopolotsk delegation visited the town of Krusevac. We hosted a return visit of Krusevac representatives on the Novopolotsk town Day. Now we established contacts in a particular area of our possible cooperation. We will continue to seek common ground in culture, education, economy, and will draft a protocol of intent. In the future we might consider establishing twining relations. By the way, Novopolotsk doctors maintain active cooperation with colleagues from the sister cities. In August of this year, they visited the Latvian town of Ludza and will travel to Ventspils in December-January. This shows that the twinning relations of Novopolotsk with 17 cities of the world have been growing stronger in various fields,” the city administration said.
