PayPal unable to use Belarusian rubles for now

08.07.2014
Belarusians have yet to wait for the digital payment system PayPal to start using Belarusian rubles, representatives of the company told BelTA.

For now PayPal does not operate Belarusian rubles and is available only to natural persons. PayPal’s representatives were not prepared to disclose when the system will be able to handle Belarusian rubles and when Belarusian corporations will be able to use PayPal’s services. “We have made our first step on the Belarusian market. We will announce the availability of new services as soon as we are ready for it,” noted the source.

Asked why Belarusian users have to use the English-language interface, the source explained that for now the ex-USSR residents, who are allowed only to make payments, are connected to the English-language interface. “We would like our service to be as simple and convenient as possible and understand that it would be more comfortable for many residents of Belarus to use the Russian-language interface. We will inform about any important changes in our services, including the transition to the Russian-language version of the website as soon as we are ready,” BelTA has been told.

Belarus residents were granted the ability to make PayPal accounts and make payments on millions of websites across the world in June 2014.

At present the payment system PayPal is available in 203 countries. The number of users exceeds 148 million people. Every day the system handles over 9 million transactions. PayPal operates 26 national currencies.
