Pharmaceutics, energy viewed as priority areas for Vitebsk Oblast-Slovakia cooperation
19.09.2014
Pharmaceutics and energy are viewed as the most promising areas for cooperation between Vitebsk Oblast and Slovakia. The statement was made by Vitebsk Oblast Vice Governor Oleg Matskevich and members of the Slovak diplomatic mission at a meeting in the oblast executive committee to mark the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Slovakia in Vitebsk on 19 September, BelTA has learned.
The parties discussed the ways to develop cooperation in economy, trade, culture, science and education. The focus was made on innovative cooperation. Slovakia operates an innovation center which cooperates with the leading universities of the Czech Republic, Poland, Finland, and Switzerland. Slovakia is interested in advancing its scientific research results to the east and with this goal in mind seeks partners in Belarus. Vitebsk Oblast also shows interest in advanced energy, oil refining, and agricultural technologies.
Vitebsk Oblast has been implementing three Slovakia-funded investment innovation projects (two projects in Novopolotsk and one in Beshenkovichi District).
The future plans include a visit of representatives of the Vitebsk City Hall and the rector of the Vitebsk State Medical University to Slovakia to boost cooperation between medical universities.
