Precise geolocation coverage for 85% of Belarus’ territory by year end
30.11.2015
As much as 85% of Belarus’ territory will be covered by the precise geolocation system by the end of 2015, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Property Committee of Belarus.
According to the source, more continuously operating reference stations (CORS) will be commissioned by the end of the year, raising the total number up to 90 and covering 85% of Belarus’ territory.
The test operation of 17 continuously operating reference stations was completed on 30 November. They will be commissioned by the enterprise Belaerokosmogeodeziya of the State Property Committee in 2015 as part of the project meant to develop satellite technologies for geodesic measurements, land surveying, and navigation in Belarus.
The main purpose of using the global satellite precise positioning system is getting coordinates and heights of specific locations during field surveying, for determining borders of land plots in the field, boundary markers and turning points of city limits as well as aerial photography centers in a specific set of coordinates. The geolocation system can produce coordinates with 1-5cm precision. It is designed to feed coordinates data to other kinds of registries such as those used for city planning, forest and water management, territory planning, environmental surveys as part of civil engineering, agriculture (precision farming), and other kinds of operations.
