RFID technology to fight counterfeited products in Belarus

Plans have been made to use a system for the smart monitoring of logistics traffic via the RFID technology to fight counterfeited products in Belarus, the press service of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

The Committee’s Chairman Alexander Shumilin, Belarusian Trade Minister Valentin Chekanov, and an executive vice president of the South Korean company LS Consortium signed a memorandum of cooperation on 20 August.

In line with the document the sides intend to develop the scientific and research potential in the area of trade and public catering, consumer services, and to monitor this sphere by introducing a system for the smart monitoring of logistics traffic using RFID technologies in Belarus. RFID technologies will be used to handle alcohol products, light industry goods, and other kinds of merchandise. The full list of applicable merchandise has yet to be determined by the joint working group.

The memorandum is also aimed at establishing organization relations and determining key avenues of cooperation.

According to Alexander Shumilin, Belarus is interested in cooperation and implementation of joint projects together with South Korean companies in introducing RFID technologies, IT sphere, production of medical instruments and robots. Belarusian Trade Minister Valentin Chekanov remarked that a new law on the state regulation of trade and public catering had been adopted in Belarus. He added that the development of trade, public catering, and control over the quality of products have never been more topical and require new scientific approaches.
