Scholars to discuss history education programs at BSU

The Belarusian State University (BSU) will host a forum the current issues of history education in the 21st century on 29 October. Partaking in the event will be scholars from seven countries, BelTA learned from the BSU press service.

The forum will be held as part of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the BSU Faculty of History. The participants will include leading historians from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Germany, and China. “The scientists will discuss further development of the history and humanities education in the modern context, exchange their teaching experience, and develop measures to coordinate the scientific and educational processes,” the BSU said.


Rector of the Belarusian State University Academician Sergei Ablameiko will open the forum. Partaking in the scientific event will also be Dean of the Faculty of History of the Lomonosov Moscow State University Sergei Karpov, Director of the History Institute of the University of Wroclaw Roscislaw Zerelik, Director of the Belarusian culture research center of the East China Normal University of Shanghai Pei-weng Li, and the deans of the history faculties of all the Belarusian universities.

The program of the celebrations also includes the opening ceremony of a lecture hall named after Academician Vladimir Picheta, the first Rector of the Belarusian State University.

The History Faculty of the Belarusian State University was founded in 1934. Today it has nine departments, four laboratories, two classrooms, and a museum of history. The faculty provides postgraduate education.

It prepares future historians specializing in history, museum affairs and protection of historical and cultural heritage, historical archivistics, and document science.

The faculty is the only academic unit in the country providing education in all kinds of historical sciences. It has scientific schools studying the social history of Belarus, the history of the Belarusian statehood, Ancient Christianity, methodology of historical cognition, and the history of Asia, Africa, and Latin America in the context of the globalization of the world processes.
