Korea Telecom offers the Smart City technology to Belarus, Dmitry Shedko, First Deputy Information Technologies and Communications Minister of Belarus, told BelTA during the meeting of the ministry, Beltelecom and Korea Telecom.
“There are suggestions to adopt certain technologies in Belarus, like the Smart City technology. This project is among the priority projects for Belarus,” Dmitry Shedko said. Some countries are already building such cities using Korean technologies. One of such cities is Songdo in South Korea. The city was founded in 2000. Modern technologies allow constructing a “smart” city where special devices collect and analyze information about the condition of roads, traffic, buildings, energy needs and water consumption. Dmitry Shedko noted that this technology helps save economic resources and makes people's lives safer and more comfortable.
Dmitry Shedko noted that there are many promising cooperation avenues for Belarus and Korea, like telephony, Internet and data transmission. “Belarus is a transit state not only for vehicles, but also for voice traffic. Phone conversations between Korea and Europe could pass via our country bringing profits for Belarus,” he noted.
Beltelecom Director General Sergei Sivodedov emphasized that the visit of the Korea Telecom delegation to Belarus is a landmark event. The meeting, in his words, will open the way for mutually beneficial cooperation.
The meeting took place in the headquarters of the national telecom operator Beltelecom. Taking part in the meeting were telecom experts and Beltelecom top managers, Director General of the Trade Department of the Korean Embassy in Belarus. The Korean delegation was led by the Korea Telecom CEO.
