Some $30m invested in Belarus’ LTE Advanced network project

About $30 million has been invested in the deployment of the LTE Advanced network in Belarus, BelTA learned from Sergei Poblaguyev, Director General of the joint venture Belarusian Cloud Technologies (beCloud trademark), on 17 December.

The 4G network operator said that a total of $30 million has been invested in the project so far. In line with the investment contract the investor is supposed to take care of financial matters and has successfully done so. Sergei Poblaguyev said that about $20 million of the total sum has been spent building the nationwide data transport network, with about $10 million spent on launching the LTE Advanced network in Minsk.

Speaking about future investments in the project, the 4G network operator CEO said that specific sums will depend on needs of consumers.

The first telecommunication infrastructure operator beCloud launched the LTE Advanced network in Minsk as a commercial service on 17 December. Now Minsk residents and visitors will be able to enjoy fourth-generation mobile communication services. The 4G network has been built by the joint venture Belarusian Cloud Technologies (beCloud).

In the initial deployment phase of the LTE Advanced network in Minsk 4G coverage will be enabled by 150 base stations. In 2016 the 4G technology will be made available in the other oblast capitals: Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev. By 2020 the 4G coverage will be expanded to district capitals and other communities with the number of residents at least as large as 50,000 people.
