A space research agency has been created as part of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), BelTA learned from Sergei Chizhik, First Deputy Chairman of the NASB Presidium, on 21 May.
“Today’s session of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus decided in favor of setting up a space research agency as part of the Academy. One can say that the agency exists as of today,” explained Sergei Chizhik. He stressed that all the Academy’s partners in space research in other countries already have similar agencies.
According to the source, the agency will include the Belarusian research and engineering enterprise Geoinformation Systems and the United Informatics Institute. “Naturally we will also cooperate with other agencies and organizations, for instance, the Information Technologies and Communications Ministry, the State Defense Industries Committee. Together we will work in the area of space research and will secure maximum performance. We are going to make space research more effective for the country,” stressed Sergei Chizhik.
“The agency will coordinate the work that involves outer space, the remote sensing of the Earth, and will work out plans for further research,” explained the official.
The First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus remarked that specialists of the space research agency will cooperate with Russian colleagues. “Cooperation with partners from Russia is part and parcel of our entire space program. It will continue like that,” said Sergei Chizhik.
