Twelve scientists win prizes of Academies of Sciences of Belarus, Russia

The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) and the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) have announced winners of the 2015 competition for prizes of the two institutions, BelTA learned from the NASB press service.
“The prizes of the NASB and the RAS are awarded once in three years for eminent scientific achievements of particular theoretical and practical importance attained as a result of joint research. Twelve scientists from Belarus and Russia have been selected as the winners this year,” the press service said.
The NASB noted that to be eligible for the competition a research team had to comprise not more than three members from each country.
The prize in the field of natural sciences was awarded to the team of Russian and Belarusian researchers for their project “Multienzyme cascade transformation of carbohydrates into nucleosides: new strategy for synthesis of biologically important nucleosides.” On behalf of Belarus, partaking in the project were scientists of the NASB Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry Vladimir Stepchenko, Igor Mikhailopulo, and Yuri Sokolov.
The prize in the field of engineering sciences was presented to the authors of papers on the topic “Materials and film heterostructures for spintronics and magnonics devices”, including scientists of the NASB Material Research Center Valery Fedosyuk, Alexander Stogny, and Alexei Trukhanov.
