Vitebsk scientists, LG Electronics to advance cooperation in material science

27.10.2015
Scientists of the Vitebsk-based Applied Acoustics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Korean corporation LG Electronics intend to advance cooperation in studying and producing materials with improved functional qualities and in ultrasound research, the institute’s Director Vasily Rubanik told BelTA.

The relevant agreement was reached as a result of the visit of the LG Electronics Advanced Research Institute delegation to Vitebsk. The visit ended on 27 October. The Advanced Research Institute is the leading agency in charge of determining the Korean corporation’s R&D policy. The delegation came to Vitebsk Oblast in search for scientific ideas and technological solutions in the area of material science for the sake of improving LG Electronics’ consumer products lineup.

Members of the Korean delegation praised the advanced level of fundamental science in Belarus, in particular, material science. According to the source, if Belarusian fundamental science is married to the Korean well-developed system of applied research, excellent results can be produced. For instance, the LG Electronics representatives showed interest in the technologies of making materials with improved functional parameters based on metals, polymers, and ceramics.

Applied Acoustics Institute Director Vasily Rubanik said: “As a result of the visit we have agreed to develop partnering relations. Our institute is interested in exporting services and technologies, in expanding its participation in global integration processes in the area of science and technology. The institute is ready to offer research ideas to LG in the area of material science and ultrasound research.” Moreover, the institute has already worked together with partners from the Republic of Korea. Several successful projects have been implemented together with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, and other agencies.

Apart from representatives of the scientific community, including Vitebsk Oblast universities, heads and leading specialists of a number of Vitebsk enterprises specializing in radio electronics, machine tool engineering, representatives of the non-commercial association Vitebsk Oblast Union of Employers took part in business events as part of the visit of the Korean delegation. The Belarusian side and LG Electronics representatives discussed possible manufacturing cooperation avenues and ways to advance industrial technologies.
