Work in progress on fully Belarusian satellite, launch scheduled for 2025

24.01.2023

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is working on a 100% Belarusian satellite. It can be inserted into orbit in 2025, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov on 24 January.

Vladimir Gusakov said: “We are working on a Belarusian-Russian spacecraft with the resolution of 0.35m. The Belarusian satellite currently in orbit has the resolution of 2m. But at the same time we are working on a new 100% Belarusian satellite. The Belarusian one may be made even sooner. I think we may launch the Belarusian-Russian satellite in 2028 but the fully Belarusian satellite may be launched in 2025. It will have only Belarusian components: filming equipment, electronics.”

Belarus has been developing space technologies for a long time. A Belarusian satellite for the remote sensing of the Earth operates in a near-Earth orbit alongside the Belarusian communications satellite Belintersat-1 and the educational nano satellite BSU Sat-1 of Belarusian State University. Belarusian space science develops rapidly across the board starting with optics and ending with materials science.
