BelNPP to take second power unit off line for scheduled maintenance
23.07.2024
MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) - The second power unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) will be taken out of service for the first scheduled preventive maintenance on 26 July, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry.
In accordance with international practice, scheduled maintenance work is carried out annually at each NPP power unit to confirm the reliability of equipment and technological systems. For this purpose, specialists will carry out detailed diagnostics, including extended control of metal and welded joints of reactor and turbine equipment. These activities will be carried out within the approved schedules.
An important part of the upcoming work will be the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh fuel - about 25% of fuel assemblies with nuclear fuel will be reloaded into the reactor core. The fuel has been delivered to the plant and has passed incoming inspection.
Belarusian and Russian organizations will be involved in the scheduled maintenance. The BelNPP second power unit was put into commercial operation on 1 November 2023. It has generated a total of 9.2 billion kWh of electricity. Since the first power unit was connected to the country’s unified power grid (3 November 2020), the plant has generated 33.1 billion kWh of electricity.
