Experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recognize a high level of the implementation of their recommendations in Belarus, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said in an interview to the Belarus One TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“Thanks to the cooperation between your country and the agency, this project (BelNPP construction – BelTA’s note) becomes more transparent, both in the economic value and nuclear security,” said Yukiya Amano.
As BelTA earlier reported, the IAEA Director General is in Belarus on his second visit. He first visited the country in 2012. The current trip will last until 20 April. It is expected that the IAEA Director General will take part in the opening of the Atomexpo exhibition in Minsk, pay a visit to the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Ostrovets and the National Emergency Management and Response Center.
Belarus is one of the IAEA constituent states. Belarus is part to all international conventions signed under the aegis of the organization. Political contacts are maintained at a high level. The IAEA representatives pay regular visits to Belarus. In 2015 the country was elected to the IAEA Board of Governors for the third time. Among the priorities in Belarus-IAEA cooperation is the development of the national nuclear power infrastructure, healthcare protection, rehabilitation of the areas affected by the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
