The second tier of the dome part of the external protective shell of the second reactor unit of the second Novovoronezh nuclear power plant has been installed, BelTA learned from representatives of the Russian nuclear installations design company Atomproekt.
The medium tier of the external protective shell weighs about 180 tonnes. Its lower diameter is as large as 46.25m, with the diameter of the upper part as large as 34.5m. The structure was put in place using a tracked crane Demag CC6800.
Vice President of the ASE Group Vitaly Polyanin said: “A precise piece of work has been done. Taking into account the size of the structure, the margin for error was only 10mm per diameter. The result has confirmed the high professionalism of the specialists building the new power-generating unit of the second Novovoronezh nuclear power plant.”
Later on the specialists will have to put in place the upper part of the dome from the +56.70m mark to the +64.40m mark. The upper and lower parts of the upper tier will have to be welded together.
The dome part of the external protective shell of the second reactor unit comprises three parts. The first part — the lower one — has been installed already, with concrete poured in place.
The second Novovoronezh nuclear power plant is being built in accordance with the AES-2006 design. It is a 3G+ design. The same design is used to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The design provides for building a dual protective shell around the reactor building. The dual shell is part of the reactor building. The dome on top of the building prevents the release of radioactive substances into the environment and offers physical protection against extreme external conditions.
