11.03.2022

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – The radiation situation in Belarus' territory is stable, BelTA learned from the website of the National Center for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Contamination Control, and Environmental Monitoring of the Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry.

According to the source, background radiation levels in Belarus remain stable. Gamma radiation readings registered by atmospheric air radiation monitoring stations correspond to the standard figures recorded over the course of many years.

According to the Polesie State Radioecological Reserve, no changes of background radiation were registered by 25 stations inside the reserve on 11 March.

BelTA reported earlier that the Chernobyl nuclear power plant site is disconnected from the power grid and no longer has access to external power supplied by the 750kV Kiev power line. Diesel generators are used to power up safety systems at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. According to the Belarusian Energy Ministry, the power line connecting the 330kV substation Mozyr and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was energized on 10 March. The steps that had been taken have allowed supplying electricity to installations of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
