Belarus attending IAEA conference in Vienna

MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) - A delegation of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) led by its head Olga Lugovskaya is taking part in the international conference on nuclear safety Shaping the Future which is underway in Vienna through 24 May, BelTA learned from Gosatomnadzor.
The head of the delegation made a national statement in which she emphasized that Belarus had welcomed all the key IAEA expert missions recommended by the agency to a newcomer country in nuclear energy. She noted that the conclusions drawn by IAEA experts from the IPPAS mission (on the physical protection of nuclear facilities) in Belarus showed that the country attached great importance to the safety and reliability of the nuclear power plant. The country has established a nuclear security regime with essential elements of the IAEA guidelines.
Olga Lugovskaya stated that the mission praised Belarus’ best practices in terms of 11 areas, which can serve as an example for other IAEA member states in strengthening the nuclear security regime.
