Belarus, Austria to discuss nuclear and radiation safety in Minsk 16-17 June

Minsk will host bilateral Belarusian-Austrian meeting to discuss nuclear and radiation safety on 16-17 June, BelTA learned from the Emergencies Ministry of Belarus.

The event will take place within the framework of the Belarus-Austria intergovernmental agreement on the exchange of information in the field of nuclear safety and radiation protection. During the meeting the parties will discuss a wide range of issues to ensure nuclear and radiation safety in Belarus and Austria, including the development of legislation in nuclear and radiation safety, radiation monitoring, radioactive waste management, operation of research facilities, etc.

It is planned that the Belarusian delegation will include representatives of the Emergencies Ministry, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Foreign Ministry, the Healthcare Ministry, the United Energy and Nuclear Research Institute Sosny, the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The Austrian delegation will be led by the head of the Nuclear Safety Office of the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs. The delegation will include 11 representatives of Austrian official agencies responsible for various aspects of nuclear and radiation safety.

The corresponding visit of representatives of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry to Vienna took place in 2011.
