Belarus’ electricity export possibly unchanged in 2016

18.12.2015
In 2016 Belarus may export as much electricity as this year, BelTA learned from Alexander Sivak, First Deputy Director General, Chief Engineer of the Belarusian electrical company Belenergo, on 18 December.

According to the source, this year Belarus has exported less energy than it did in 2014. About 200 million kWh of electricity went to the Baltic states, primarily to Lithuania. “I don’t think we can expect a major increase in electricity export now. I don’t think something will drastically change in 2016,” said the Chief Engineer.

Asked about possible export of electricity to Poland, Alexander Sivak noted that negotiations with the country continue. In particular, it is necessary to build direct-current sections at the Belarusian-Polish border since the Belarusian power grid and the Polish one use different synchronization frequencies. It is a lengthy process, but it is being taken care of, he said.

In 2014 Belarus exported about 500 million kWh of electricity to foreign consumers.
