Belarus expects lower Russian gas price as from 1 January

There are essential reasons for reducing the price for Russian natural gas as from 1 January 2016. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko made the relevant statement on 16 December, BelTA has learned.
“We believe that there are all reasons to say that as from 1 January the price for [Russian natural] gas should be considerably reduced. Although it is acceptable even now. To be precise, it is $142.37 per 1,000m3,” said Vladimir Semashko.
In his words, the idea was discussed with the Russian government in the past. Now routine aspects are being addressed. It is assumed that representatives of Belarus will go to Moscow soon in order to discuss the matter. Vladimir Semashko noted that plans had been made to agree the specific price and prepare the relevant documents by 21 December.
Asked about terms of delivery of Russian oil to Belarus in 2016, the official said that the negotiations still continue.
